The Theme: Role of ICT in Improving Rural Health Services
The Ukerewe District Commissioner, Peter Toima, has called upon parents to provide computer application training to their children to make them pursue further training in other fields very easily.
Mr. Toima was officiated the Ukerewe forum which was held at Teachers Resource Centre, Nansio on 20th October 2006. The topic the forum was the role of ICTs in improving rural health services.
He also urged SWOPnet Mwanza Chapter, to raise the awareness of various stakeholders, to provide ICT services in rural areas. He called upon ICT stakeholders to establish an internet café in Nansio town.

Joseph Msaki and Adam Ndokeji gave a brief history of SWOPnet Mwanza and introduction ICTs and its applications.
Presenting his paper on the Role of ICT in improving rural health services, Mr. Patrick Kihoza, from Bugando University of Health Sciences, explained the way medical doctors could use computers, for storing patients records as well as effective treatment of the patients. He said if computers would be used effectively health services could be significantly improved.

He stressed the need to train health officers on computer applications, so that they could use them for improving their work.

At the end of the forum the stakeholders decided to forum a committee that will be tasked to promote ICT application thus speeding up development.
