SWOPNET KAGERA FORUM LAUNCHED

A Task Force of 15 people has been formed to spearhead the establishment of a community radio, as part of the activities of Kagera SWOPnet forum which was launched on 5 May 2006 in Bukoba Municipality.

The Chairperson of Kagera Press Club, Gilbert Makwabe launching the forum.

The members of the team are Abdu Kabyemela, Winfrida Mkono, Janat Ndamugoba, Fidelis Nyamoni, Suleiman Idrissa, Jovvenali Kashaigili, and Godwin Blasio.

Others are Sekiku Joseph, Method Kalikila, Consolata Balongo, Gilbert Makwabe, Kyaruzi Mababu and Elfazi Bengesi.

The launching of Kagera SWOPnet forum which was attended by 98 people drawn from the central government, districts councils, media, religious organization, non governmental organizations, business people and disabled associations was facilitated by SWOPnet Mwanza Forum.

The launching ceremony was also graced by two officials from Dutch development organization, SNV, Ms Ayeta Wangusa and Kumbulai Ndlovu who also spoke about their activities.

The SWOPnet Mwanza chair, Abubakar Karsan, gave a lengthy presentation on SWOPnet objectives, activities and expectations.

He said SWOPnet Kagera forum would contribute immensely in the improvement of developmental activities in the region through ICTs.

He urged all SWOPnet members in Kagera to consult widely as to how they would want their chapter to operate.

Ms Wangusa said SNV would use the Kagera Forum in the implementation of the PET programme, which is about tracking the public expenditure

At the end of the meeting the participants unanimously resolved to establish the forum and support its activities.
