Mwanza residents have wide variety of fish.

Thanks to the rich water of the world’s second largest fresh water lake, Lake Victoria.

 

The dominant fish types harvested are engrumlycyprea sp, tilapia sp, lales sp,
clacius sp, protopretus sp and mormyrus sp.
Individual fishermen harvest these fish
using traditional and mechanised equipment.

Some fish is sold to other regions and the
neighboring countries of Congo, Zambia, Kenya,
Rwanda, Burundi and Zimbabwe.

Other fishing products are processed for
export markets by fish processing
industries available in the City.
