VEFDA (T) - Victoria Environmental and Fishery Development Association - Tanzania was formed in July 2000 by a merge of 16 groups in the regions of Mwanza, Kagera and Mara. The registrar of Societies in ministry of Home Affairs awarded registration of the organization SO. 10824 in February 2001. Since then, VEFDA (T) has developed a Strategic Plan 2002 - 2012 that covers the organization-prioritized activities on short term and long-term basis.

VEFDA -T has published Environmental issues in fisheries development in 2000 as part of the plan of action for Environmental development, it has also support and advocate on Tanzania fisheries policy.
VEFDA-T specifies that, within the cross-cutting frame work of addressing gender equality, Environmental sustainability and democracy/decentralization, the fisheries policy main development aim to contribute to improving the living condition, human nutrition and incomes of low income groups in fishery communities and other people depending on fisheries sector.
In that course VEFDA-T on it fisheries programme initiate the promotion and advocacy on:
- Care assessment of underlying resource potential and existing users in friendly capture fisheries
- Improving fisheries management
- Optimizing catch volumes
- Increasing environmentally sustainable Aquaculture
- Improving the utilization of fisheries production and promoting water recourses management
