FORUM GEITA
Theme: Rule of ICT in Improving Education
20 participants who attended the Geita forum will be sponsored by SWOPnet Mwanza Chapter to attend an introductory training on how internet works. The decision to train them was made by SWOPnet Chair Abubakr Karsan, after the participants said they did not have emails address because they did not know how to open them.
The participants who were drawn from Secondary and Primary Schools, local government, internet cafe operators, computer training colleges and teachers were attending a SWOPnet forum in Geita district, which was discussing the role of ICT in facilitating education.

The forum was facilitated by 3 facilitators from Mwanza. The main topic was presented by Ng'wanashigi Gagaga, who explained how ICT could improve education delivery. His full presentation has been uploaded on our SWOPnet Mwanza forum, discussion group.
During the discussion a number of issues were raised namely:
1. Primary school pupils should be trained on how to use computers.
2. Many Secondary schools in Geita do not have computer teachers.
3. The community do not know the importance of ICTs.
4. SWOPnet should conduct an intensive awareness raising campaign to various stakeholders on the importance of ICT4D

Closing the forum, Karsan said SWOPnet would take up the challenge of raising the awareness of stakeholders on the importance of ICT4D.
The forum was attended by 50 participants and was held at Nyumba ya Vijana Hall on 5 September 2007.
